Frequently Asked Questions

Empowering yourself against doubt with answers to the most common questions about counseling.

Resilience Counseling strives to create a space where you feel supported in exploring the questions you have—from logistical details to deeply personal queries, we’re here to help.

How will therapy help me?

The benefits of counseling are numerous, regardless of the kind of support you’re seeking. There is no single outline of the benefits of therapeutic support, and it would be an under-representation of your personal value to attempt to offer one here.

Therapy is not simply for those who feel broken or cannot continue without support. All are welcome here, and we strive to support you in creating an atmosphere in your life where you feel safe and supported.

Asking for help can be difficult, but receiving it doesn’t have to be.

Therapy can:

  • Develop tools for communication

  • Reveal truths about needs and desires

  • Support intimacy and connection

  • Remodel your relationship with self-talk

  • Offer tools for coping with difficult emotions

  • Navigate and heal trauma

You are the expert of your life, and experts need precision tools.

What if I’m afraid I’ll be judged?

You will be celebrated here for showing up authentically and we strive to offer you a non judgemental and low-pressure space to explore your identity.

Fear is a common barrier to healing and vulnerability, particularly when you are used to moving through a world where you have to hide parts of who you are. That fear is something you were conditioned to feel and not a fault of who you are.

You will never be forced to reveal more than you’re comfortable sharing for the duration of our supportive therapeutic relationship. Anything you do reveal is entirely confidential and will never be communicated beyond our work together.

We understand the burden of shame and rejection.

While we may spend time working through those emotions, you will find a positive, affirming, and welcoming space to pour out your vulnerability. You can assemble it into the strengths you deserve to walk through the world wearing.

How long will I spend in therapy?

Sessions are 50 minutes long. The length of time we will spend on your therapeutic journey will vary, and we can formulate a plan if knowing this is important to you. On average, a counseling plan outlines 6-12 months of support. We can tailor your treatment to your needs and concerns so they fit the timetable that works best for your healing.

Where will we meet?

Individual Therapy and Relationship Therapy sessions are available to you both in person and online.

If you’d like to start your exploration of strength and growth in person, the Resilience Counseling office is located next to the Ghent Square complex in Akron, Ohio.

DO You Offer online Couples Counseling?

Yes! We offer online therapy for individuals and couples anywhere in Ohio. For virtual support, we use an application called Simple Practice.

All telehealth services will be accessible through your client portal. Establishing this will be a simple process, just a few clicks further than your registration paperwork.

Do You take Insurance?

I am in-network for Medical Mutual.

Otherwise, you are welcome to file for out-of-network reimbursement of your treatment costs through your insurance company.

What does therapy Cost?

The cost of care with Resilience Counseling is $140 - $190. This figure will vary based on the type of appointment you’re attending, and we are committed to transparency about the cost before your visit.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Communication is a critical part of counseling relationships so if you need to move your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. You are free to cancel without penalty up to 24 hours before your appointment. We understand that emergencies and illnesses happen, so you’ll only be charged a cancellation fee in those circumstances when your appointment isn’t rescheduled within one week.

What will our Therapy sessions look like?

Your session will always begin with a check-in. It’s an important part of our relationship to get an accurate picture of where you are in the moment we’re sharing, as well as the progress toward healing and how you’re feeling about the support you’re receiving.

For relationships

When working with partnered units, we will likely develop a structure that benefits the treatment plan we develop together and acknowledges the needs of everyone involved.

The Gottman Relationship Check-Up, as well as the Prepare-Enrich Assessment tools, are often a part of the structure for these appointments. While we will do the majority of those exercises in the office together, you may have outlined tasks you can prepare for in advance to reflect on until our next meeting.

For individuals

In each appointment, we will work diligently toward the goals outlined in your assessment and early treatment plan. Staying on course while acknowledging your current feelings is key.

You will retain a lot of direction and agency over the shape of your treatment. Life and needs change and fluctuate from moment to moment, much less month to month, so we will always strive to create space for those adjustments in the way your appointments engage with your current and overall needs.

Ready to get started?

Choosing a counseling practice is a deeply personal decision and we want to help you navigate that with as much accuracy as possible. We hope the answers here will help you to formulate the solutions you need, but if you find you have questions beyond them we’re happy to help.
